Freebox Ultra: The Ultimate Guide to Free’s New High-End Fiber Offers

2024-01-30 21:56:15

Following the presentation of the Freebox Ultra, Free has just reviewed its catalog of fixed internet access offers. The Freebox Ultra logically replaces the Delta, while the Pop remains positioned in the mid-range. It is still the indestructible Freebox Revolution which serves as entry level, but with a revised pricing formula.

Element common to all subscriptions: they are without obligation and the activation and cancellation fees are €49 each.

Freebox Ultra

Let’s start with Free’s new flagship offer, the Freebox Ultra. For €49.99/month for one year, then €59.99/month, it includes:

  • 8 Gbit/s symmetrical fiber access
  • Equipment
    • Server Ultra (Wi-Fi 7 compatible) + SFP+ module on request
    • Wi-Fi 7 repeater on request
    • Player TV Free 4K (Player Pop)
    • Pocket Wi-Fi (4G key) on request with 200 GB/month before connection then 50 GB/month
  • Television:
    • OQEE by Free (230 TV channels, replay, 320 hour digital recorder)
    • OQEE Ciné (unlimited video on demand)
    • TV by Canal (50 TV channels)
    • Free Ligue 1
  • Services included:
    • Canal+ channel live
    • Disney+ Standard with advertising
    • Netflix Standard with advertising
    • Amazon Prime
    • Universal+
    • Coffee
  • Telephony
    • Unlimited calls to mobiles in mainland France, Europe and overseas territories and to landlines in more than 110 destinations

If the included Wi-Fi 7 repeater is not enough, it is possible to have up to three additional ones, at €20 each. Unlike the Freebox Pop offer, it is impossible to take an Apple TV 4K at a preferential rate.

Freebox Ultra

With the Freebox Ultra, Free markets the most expensive general public offering on the market. Until then, it was Orange which held the prize with the Livebox Max Fiber at €57.99/month (first six months at €39.99). But the Freebox Ultra stands out from other high-end fiber offers with two strong arguments: a speed of 8 Gbit/s symmetrical (the others do not exceed 1 Gbit/s in upstream speed) and a myriad of services included.

According to customer service, it is possible to migrate from Delta to Ultra for a €49 fee.

Freebox Ultra Essential

If you don’t spend your time in front of your television, Free offers its subscription in a formula Freebox Ultra Essential at €39.99/month for one year, then €49.99/month. This offer includes the same thing as the Freebox Ultra (equipment, television, telephone), with the exception of streaming services. There is no Netflix, no Disney+, no Amazon, no Universal+, no Canal+ channel.

€40/month for a year, then €50, it’s the same price as the old Freebox Delta offer, but the latter included Netflix and Amazon Prime in addition. The fact remains that this price of €50/month still advantageously places the Freebox Ultra Essentiel compared to the Livebox Up Fibre at €52/month (Livebox 6 Wi-Fi 6E, 2 Gbit/s downlink, Wi-Fi 6 repeater) and Bbox Ultym at €53/month (Bbox Wi-Fi 6E, 2 Gbit/s downlink, Wi-Fi repeater, streaming services included 6 months).

Freebox Pop

Freebox Pop

The Freebox Pop continues its path in the mid-range. No change in price or included services. For €29.99/month for one year, then €39.99, it includes:

  • fiber access 5 Gbit/s down and 700 Mbit/s up
  • Equipment
    • Server Pop (Wi-Fi 6)
    • Wi-Fi 5 repeater on request
    • Player TV Free 4K (Player Pop)
  • Television:
    • OQEE by Free (230 TV channels, replay, 100-hour digital recorder)
    • OQEE Ciné (unlimited video on demand)
    • Free Ligue 1
  • Telephony
    • Unlimited calls to mobiles in mainland France, Europe and overseas territories and to landlines in more than 110 destinations

It is still possible to choose an Apple TV 4K instead of the Free decoder for €2.99/month for four years.

Freebox Revolution Light

Freebox Revolution

The Freebox Revolution definitely does not want to die. This box launched more than ten years ago is still marketed, but under a new name. It is now the Freebox Revolution Light, at €29.99/month, including after one year. The subscription includes:

  • fiber access 1 Gbit/s down and 600 Mbit/s up
  • Equipment
    • Server Revolution (Wi-Fi 5)
    • Player TV Revolution (HD TV)
  • Television:
    • Freebox TV (230 channels)
    • OQEE Cinema
    • Blu-ray player
    • Free Ligue 1
  • Telephony
    • Unlimited calls to landlines in over 110 destinations

The old Freebox Revolution offer cost €19.99/month for one year, then €44.99. The new price therefore marks a return to triple-play (internet + TV + telephone) at €30, a type of offer that has become increasingly rare in recent years.
