The press freedom situation in the DRC is improving somewhat under the regime of President Félix Tshisekedi.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) published the 21st edition of the World Press Freedom Index on Wednesday. According to his report, the DRC is placed in 124th position out of 180. It gains a place compared to the raking of last year. RSF particularly evokes a general situation marked by the activism of the M23.

« Media pluralism is real in the country, but in North Kivu, the sector is strongly affected by the conflict between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the M23 rebels. It is in this context that a new law on the press was passed by the National Assembly, a few months before the general elections. “, says this organization.

This May 3, the DRC is commemorating World Press Freedom Day at the River Hotel in Kinshasa with the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi. This celebration is placed under the theme: “ Freedom of expression put to the test by the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. New press law for a new dynamic ».

During this event, participants will assess the efforts made by the Government and the progress made in promoting freedom of expression, and mainly freedom of the press as well as the safety of media professionals in a deleterious security context. , ahead of the pluralist elections scheduled for the end of 2023
