Freddie Freeman capped a four-hit, five-RBI night with a three-run homer, his first home run in more than a month, and led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 14-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.
The Dodgers’ offense was activated early with back-to-back doubles by Mookie Betts and Freeman in the first frame. Two batters later, Will Smith’s single to center scored Freeman to make it 2-0.
It was the start of a 24-hit flurry for the Angels, which tied the mark set against the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 13, 2014. Every slugger on the starting team finished with at least two hits.
The loss went to Mexican Humberto Castellanos (3-2) after conceding six runs in four innings, 10 hits and a walk, with just one strikeout. Justin Bruihl (1-1) got the win after a scoreless ninth in relief.
