During his first speech since the promulgation of the much criticized pension reform on the night of Friday to Saturday after the validation of the essentials of the text by the Constitutional Council, Emmanuel Macron defended “necessary changes”, while acknowledging that the text is not “accepted” by the French.
He gave himself “one hundred days” to launch a plan of “appeasement” and “action” by July 14, after the “anger” aroused by the pension reform, instructing the head of government to present “starting next week” a roadmap.
He also announced that he wanted to build a “new work life pact” in the coming weeks and called on employers and unions for a series of negotiations.
The inter-union had already announced at the end of last week that it would not meet the government before the mobilization of May 1, which it wishes to be massive, because it does not intend to consider that the episode of the pension reform is closed.
Since January, hundreds of thousands of French people have marched over several weeks against the said reform in demonstrations, sometimes interspersed with clashes and violence, until the last episode last Friday with the validation of the text by the Constitutional Council and its publication in the Official Journal Saturday.
In reaction to the decision of the Elders and the express promulgation of the text by Emmanuel Macron, the CGT called on the French again for two days of social mobilization against the reform, on April 20 and 28. The intersyndicale also called for making May Day “a historic moment of mobilization”.
