World Wrestling Entertainment „Friday Night SmackDown #1252“
Ort: Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, USA
Date: 21 July 2023
Spectators: Approximately 12,100

As usual, Friday Night SmackDown begins with a recap of what happened around the Bloodline. In this case, we see Jimmy Uso’s injury as well as Jey Uso’s response from the previous week. Solo Sikoa took a few chair hits and Paul Heyman got a superkick. Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman wander the aisles of the backstage area, who will face Jey Uso today. The commentary duo of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett welcome us to a new edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Austin Theory is already at the commentary booth, which can only mean that the first match of the night can be the WWE United States Championship Invitational Match. The other three opponents are already in the ring when LA Knight comes last. But he has prepared a few more words and announces that he will be at the biggest party of the summer. For that he has to win today first, but that won’t be a big problem because it’s LA Knights game after all.

1. Match
WWE United States Championship Invitational – Four Way Match
Rey Mysterio defeated Sheamus, LA Knight, and Cameron Grimes via a pinfall on Cameron Grimes after a Frankensteiner.
Match time: 18:38
– After a few minutes, Rey Mysterio and Austin Theory clashed outside the ring.
– After a 619 and a splash against Cameron Grimes, it looked like Rey Mysterio had already won the match, but Austin Theory pulled him out of the ring. Then came Santos Escobar and drove off the United States Champion.

Thus, Rey Mysterio will meet Santos Escobar next week. The two cheer together in the ring after the match.

The Cavinder Twins are in the front row today. NXT’s Dragon Lee, Wes Lee, Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes and Tiffany Stratton will also be featured throughout the show.

Jey Uso also wanders through the aisles in the backstage area.

An angry Austin Theory goes in search of Adam Pierce. He also finds him and complains about Santos Escobar. He even requests a match against him, which he only gets if he jeopardizes his United States Championship. Theory does not see that, but demands a regular match, since he will soon have to defend his title against Escobar or Rey Mysterio anyway. Adam Pierce acknowledges this and the non-title match is official.

A flashback shows us excerpts from “Monday Night RAW”. In his hometown, Cody Rhodes demanded that Brock Lesnar come out. The Beast Incarnate was also released and the two fought a brawl which Lesnar also won in front of Rhodes’ mother. The third match between the two was then officially confirmed for SummerSlam.

In the Progressive Match Flo, Iyo Sky’s implied cash-in is shown, but Asuka escapes in time.

2. Match
Singles Match
Charlotte Flair defeated Iyo Sky (w/ Bayley) via a natural selection pinfall.
Match time: 14:09
– During the match, Bayley was part of the commentary team.
– After almost nine minutes, Bayley distracted Charlotte so that Iyo Sky could show a powerbomb. But the cover only went to two. This was followed by an odd shot by Shotzi that caused Bayley to go backstage. This distracted Iyo Sky, but that didn’t immediately lead to the finish.

The celebration was short lived as Asuka stormed into the ring and hit Charlotte with a German Suplex. She then grabs the Queen in an armbar and cheers in the ring.

In another clip, we see Dominik Mysterio winning the NXT North American Championship from Wes Lee thanks to Rhea Ripley. The two members of Judgment Day are now also with Kayla Braxton. Dominik badmouths his father, making fun of the fact that he can only be the champion of the USA, but he himself is the champion of all of North America. Butch comes in and demands a title match for tonight, which the North American Champion doesn’t like. Shawn Michaels also joins in and is very excited about the idea. He goes to Adam Pierce to make the match official.

Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman are sitting in their dressing room. Neither of them speak. Roman Reigns just looks at Solo Sikoa uncertainly.

Bayley and Iyo Sky argue in the ladies’ locker room until they find Bayley’s battered suitcase. In this is a pair of scissors that pierce a photo of Bayley. Frightened, the two quickly set off and disappear.

3. Match
(Non Title-)Singles Match
Santos Escobar defeated Austin Theory via a pinfall from a phantom driver.
Match time: 10:44

Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams visit Bobby Lashley in his dressing room. But before they really start talking, the camera switches back to the hall.

4. Match
NXT North American Championship
Dominik Mysterio (w/ Rhea Ripley) defeated Butch via pinfall after Rhea slammed Butch face first into the ring post.
Match time: 07:53
– After almost two minutes, Rhea handed Dominik a steel chain. But he can’t use it because Ridge Holland arrives in time and rips the steel chain out of his hand.
– After about five minutes, Elton Prince & Kit Wilson come to the ring. The former is in a wheelchair, although he only has an injured shoulder. Two minutes later, the two demand an apology from Ridge Holland, only to smack him. An enraged Ridge Holland rears up, causing Kit Wilson to run, terrified. He leaves behind Elton Prince, who then flees as well. Butch was distracted by this, which also led to the finish.

It’s time for the last segment of the evening. “Main Event” Jey Uso enters the ring to loud cheers. He is followed by Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman. There are already two office chairs and a table in the ring. Heyman hands the microphone to our Tribal Chief and also demands from Orlando: “Acknowledge me!”. Reigns cynically asks Jey if he really wants to go through this segment alone. Jey reacts emotionally and says he has to do this because they rushed Jimmy to the hospital and someone needs to stop Reigns. But Reigns replies that Jey still doesn’t get it. He is still a lone soldier in a war that is too big for him. The Head of the Table signs the contract for their match at SummerSlam. Jey Uso takes the document and tears it up. You don’t need a contract as this will be a Tribal Combat. Reigns asks if the family elders know about it. Jey can not only affirm this, because it was even her suggestion. He lists all the objects and weapons he can use in this Anything Goes Match. The fans in the arena are excited, but Roman is becoming more and more testy. He insults viewers and notes that he’s carried the company on his shoulders for almost a decade. However, Jey Uso adds that it will not only be about the championship, but also about the role of the tribal chief. Again Reigns seems unsure and symbolically puts his necklace on the table next to the title. The two shake hands after a staredown and the three remaining members of the Bloodline are about to leave when Solo Sikoa turns and tries to hit Jey with a Samoan Spike. However, this is stopped by Roman Reigns, which visibly confuses Solo. Jey takes advantage of this and gives his younger brother a super kick. This edition of “Friday Night SmackDown” ends with a staredown of the two opponents.
