Michael Cole and Wade Barett open today’s edition of Smackdown. The commentators remind us that we’re still a week away from Summerslam! In the ring is “Main Event” Jey Uso which is also announced. “Main Event Jey Uso is now in your City” sounds Jey Uso. Before he can say anything else, we hear the music of the “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns and he comes out with Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman. Once in the ring, Paul Heyman hands Roman Reigns the mic. “New Orleans, Acknowledge me!” we hear from the Tribal Chief. Roman asks if the fans know why they like the Usos? Because of him. Why does Jey think he’s called the Tribal Chief’s right hand man or main event Jey Uso? All because of him. Does he think he’s the new tribal chief now? Jey replies that he never wanted any of this. He just wanted to protect him. He believed in him. He was the right hand for three years. The fact is Roman broke the Bloodline, he broke the Usos and so did Jimmy and it was all Roman’s fault. Roman doesn’t want to listen to this any longer. Let’s jump back, three years ago to be precise. Jey only became the right hand man because his brother Jimmy was injured. After Roman defeated Jey at Summerslam, he will never set foot in the company again. However, should Jey actually defeat Roman, he will become the new champion and Tribal Chief. However, a novel will remain a novel. Jey reminds him that he already pinned Roman and at Summerslam he will pin him again. Jey drops the mic and leaves the ring contentedly, leaving pensive Roman, Solo and Heyman in the ring.
We get to see the Match Flo from both US Invitationals, in which Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio were able to prevail.
Backstage, Jey runs into Uso Grayson Waller. He already sees his defeat at the Summerslam and invites him to his talk show. The Grayson Waller Effect and his special guest “little Jimmy Uso”. They both start laughing, but Waller catches one from Jey.
1. Match
United States Championship Invitational – Finale – Singles Match
Santos Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio via referee stoppage after Rey Mysterio was unable to continue fighting.
Match time: 14:15
– Before the match there is a handshake between the two and both pay respect.
– Austin Theory watches the match from a lounge, in the arena.
– Before the commercial break, Rey Mysterio was injured by a hit dive outside of Santos Escobar’s ring.
Rey and Santos hug after the match. Shortly thereafter we see a staredown between Austin Theory and Santos Escobar.
Backstage, Kayla Braxton hosts Bianca Belair and questions her about her triple threat match at Summerslam. Belair replies that it’s just numbers and she’ll beat her opponents when reigning tag team champions Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green come in and make fun of Bianca. Bianca would love to show them what she’s made of, which prompts Charlotte Flair to say she wants Belair at 100% for her match at Summerslam. She has also requested a tag team match between her and Charlotte against the tag team champions at Adam Pearce, which doesn’t make Bianca particularly happy.
Hit Row are in the ring holding a promo when they are interrupted by LA Knight. It will probably come to the next match.
2. Match
Singles Match
LA Knight defeated Ashantee “Thee” Adonis (w/ Hit Row – Top Dolla & B-Fab) via pin after Blunt Force Trauma.
Match time: 01:30
– Top Dolla interfered in the match when the referee wasn’t looking.
Jey Uso and Adam Pierce are chatting backstage. Adam says that since Jey and Grayson had a brief “meeting,” there will be another match between the two later. Jey walks on satisfied.
Backstage we are the Street Profits with Bobby Lashley. Bobby says the Street Profits are stars and he has something for them. Bobby’s assistant comes with a rack of clothes, all of which are for Street Profits.
3. Match
(Non-Title) Tag Team Match
Charlotte Flair & Bianca Belair defeated WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green via pin after Charlotte’s big boot to Chelsea Green.
Match time: 10:30
After the match, Bianca gets upset about the finish, believing it was her win.
Bayley has been watching the whole thing backstage and is amused by it, when Suddenly Iyo Sky walks in, she asks what the action was about last week when Bayley left Iyo Sky behind. Bayley tries to explain herself and finds a picture with several pictures of her and the words “Bayley, I’ll get you” as they both want to leave. Asuka arrives and makes fun of them both. Iyo concludes that Asuka should watch out for her title, otherwise Iyo will redeem her suitcase. They leave Asuka standing.
At the “Summerslam” we will see a Battle Royale. The participants will be announced next week.
Backstage, Adam Pearce is on the phone as LA Knight walks in. He’s fed up with being held down every time and demands a place in the battle royal. They are interrupted by the Brawling Brutes making fun of LA Knight. Before a fight ensues between Sheamus and LA Knight, Adam Pearce makes a match between the two official for next week, plus both participate in the battle royal.
We see Earlier Tonight video of the segment between Jey Uso and Grayson Waller.
Backstage, Cathy Kelly catches Grayson Waller warming up for his match against Jey. She says that Grayson provoked Jey, which Grayson sees differently. Jey has too much on his mind at the moment to focus on the match. He will teach Jey Uso a lesson.
The OC cheers for Karl Anderson before the next match. He only says that the match is personal and he will go out alone.
4. Match
Singles Match
Karrion Kross (w/ Scarlett) defeated Karl Anderson via pin after the Saito Suplex.
Match time: 02:08
After the match, Karrion put Anderson back on the sleeper hold until AJ Styles and Michin made the save.
Backstage, a pensive Roman Reigns sits in his chair as Jey Uso’s music plays. Shaking his head, Roman watches the match backstage.
LA Knight vs. Sheamus has been announced for next week’s edition of Smackdown. Then, in two weeks, Austin Theory will jeopardize his WWE United States Championship against Santos Escobar.
5. Match
Singles Match
Jey Uso defeated Grayson Waller via pin after the Uso splash.
Match time: 11:09
– Roman Reigns music will play during the match. This one also comes out alongside Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman, which distracted Jey Uso.
After the match, Solo Sikoa attacks Jey Uso from behind. When Solo goes for the Samoan Spike, Jey counters with a Superkick. Roman then storms into the ring and wants to attack Jey, but Jey can counter here too and starts to spear Roman. As Jey goes for the Uso Splash, Solo throws him off the top rope and Solo attacks Jey. Solo and Roman finish off Jey with a spike/spear combo. Jey lies motionless on the floor. Roman, however, this is not enough and it comes to the second spike / spear combo. Today’s edition ends with a motionless Jey Uso.
