In the midst of the debate over the omnibus law in Congress, more than 20,000 representatives of Argentine culture, among whom stand out Charly García, Fito Páez, León Gieco, Cecilia Roth and Graciela Borges, signed an open letter against the changes proposed by Javier Milei’s Omnibus Law.

The letter is titled «Letter to the National Congress. “Culture is in danger” and is addressed to the deputies and senators in rejection of the DNU and the Omnibus Law of President Javier Milei, the request has massive support from representatives of national culture from all sectors.

Through it, the artists expressed their discontent and They ask that the modifications proposed by the Government that seek “definancing” not be made of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), the National Institute of Music (INAMU) and the Popular Libraries.

Furthermore, they demand that the National Fund for the Arts and the National Theater Institute should not be closedthe National Institute of Music (INAMU) and that the Book Activity Law is not repealed.

«We want to continue having our own identity as a Nation. Otherwise, we will only have the sad destiny of not being. That’s what this fight is about. A country is as big or as small as the measure of its cultural project,” they stated.

They ask legislators to “be up to par,” because “Culture is the only thing that cannot be imported, it is made by the people”.

The cultural leaders state that Milei’s administration “intends to repeal vital laws for the survival of the cultural industries, arts and sciences, and cultural heritage” of the country and added that ““It attacks culture, public media and decentralized organizations that promote the cultural production of our Nation.”
