His first backpacking trip to Europe

“I always had family, acquaintances who instructed me every time they returned from vacation and I lived dreaming of the opportunity to be where they showed me in those photos, romanticizing it a bit and it just happened that the opportunity to do an exchange came up, to train abroad when I was about to finish my degree in Argentina”he explained.

He first trip to Europe was in 2015, when he made his first trade. He had an “Argentine student” budget and decided to embark on a backpacking dream, living on ten dollars a day.

So it came to know 35 countries. From France it made a route to Moscow (Russia) and then to Istanbul (Turkey). “I realized that you could travel on a low budget without the need to put aside studies or work and have a pleasant life.”

Agustín recounted that trips to different countries arose spontaneously, he began to discover new places and cultures, gave him curiosity to play with the idea of staying one more day, of discovering what was behind the next frontier.

At the beginning -according to the young man- a schedule was made with the number of days in each city, the museums and monuments that he was going to visit, but now you just choose the date of round trip and that the place surprises you.

The place more magical what he met is Maldiveswhere he was two months ago and is “one of the countries most beautiful in nature of the world. In my life I thought that I would be able to be in such a quiet place, without so much tourism, I thought it was a luxurious place and in the end it was a super beautiful country, normal”Augustine added.

The worst experience: a kidnapping attempt

When Augustine was in Haiti made one of the many outings for Channel 7. The next day, suffered a kidnapping attempt.

“It seems that The word spread, I was about to go out on the streetI was in a hotel in the middle of a humble city and I went to look for the taxi that it was a scooter. I I was holding on to the man on the scooter and when we passed through the door of the hotelI was waiting a guy with a machete.”

The problem is that the young man went to Haiti in December 2021, in the midst of a civil war, in the moment in wich they assassinated the president Jovenel Moise. Practically there was no state Haitians asked for international help due to the shortage of supplies, but Agustín did not know all the conflict before traveling to the Caribbean island.

Leaving Haiti was an adventure. At first he thought about renting a car, but they advised him not to because no company was going to rent him a car so that it would be dismantled a few kilometers away.

There were no planes airports were taken and there were only a few companies left local buses used by Haitians traveling to the Dominican Republic to work.

“I was the only tourist on the bus and they told me that it was one of the last buses that left this year.’It’s going one way, we don’t know if it’s coming back, because the bus that came last week got 15 thugs on top and looted everything’, They told me. I had already bought the ticket, I took a risk, I was a little used to traveling in Europe, a little more colourful, more friendly and the reality of the outside world grabbed me a bitthe crude trips”, recounted Agustín.

The young man had already boarded the bus to leave Haiti, when the vehicle turned around noisily halfway through because there was a protest ahead and if they followed the path, they did not pass. He had to stay an extra night and the next day, finally, the bus left.
