In exactly one week, these 14 Reunionese, young and old, will fly to France. It is there that a CDI (open-ended contract) awaits them, after having brilliantly completed their training as airport security officers.

In a few days, they will meet either at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport or at Orly airport. Parisian airports which see thousands and thousands of passengers passing through every day.

Our 14 Reunionese will have the task of checking that no one is carrying prohibited items, on them or in their bags. Inspection and filtering of baggage in the hold and cabin baggage, pat-down of passengers, will now punctuate their working days.

But before signing their CDI, these new airport security agents had to go through several stages. All of them first had to pass a training admission test, then two interviews with the Pôle Emploi and the employer. But they were also the subject of a double investigation, both by the prosecution and the prefecture.

The particularity of a security officer is that he has a double approval: that of the prefect, and that of the prosecutor. This is why they will have the right to look in the luggage of passengers, and to carry out pat-downs“, justifies Carolle Guisnet, safety instructor and director of DGF-OI, the training center dedicated to the professions of security, safety and first aid, where these young people learned their future profession. “There are still a lot of brakes, but once we have passed all these caps, we can attack the formation“, she continues.

And at the end of the training of about 26 days finally comes the national exam which allows them to practice the profession. Minimum score required? 13, and soon 14 out of 20. “It takes a lot of work,” says the safety instructor.

Among the new agents of this promotion, Houmadi Izaki, who will take his first steps at Orly airport next week. The young man did not hesitate for a second after seeing this training offer on social networks. “I chose this training because it is an environment that fascinates me“, he says.

Leaving far from Reunion to start this new job is all the more a challenge for Houmadi Izaki as he has never been in France.

“I’m a little apprehensive, but I agree to get started! We will mainly check the luggage, the passengers, we will be on the ground. It will be Orly, there will be a lot of people. To find ourselves there in a large airport, with a lot of work, it’s stressful”

This is not the first time that Reunionese have joined the Parisian airport security teams: last year, when tourism was picking up again after the Covid crisis, around twenty Reunionese went to reinforce the workforce at the Orly airport.
