Netanyahu orders the freezing of the ventilators project in the occupied Golan during Eid al-Adha

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the freezing of a project to build fans (wind turbines) in the Golan Heights, which is controlled by Israel, for a short period, following clashes between residents and the police over the project.

Netanyahu said late on Saturday that he had agreed to halt the project during the Eid al-Adha holiday this week, with the aim of allowing time for talks to defuse the crisis, according to the Associated Press.

The project is expected to resume next week, and a statement from Netanyahu’s office said he made the decision on the advice of security officials.

Clashes broke out between the people of the occupied Golan and the Israeli police, following they confronted the installation of fans, which led to injuries among them. Hundreds of residents of Majdal Shams, Masada and Ain Qinya gathered in the Golan to defend their agricultural lands, and clashed with police forces to prevent the construction of fans in the eastern agricultural region, which lies between the villages of Majdal, Masada and Ain Qinya.

This project will lead to the Israeli occupation authorities confiscating 4,500 dunums of agricultural land in the three villages inhabited by thousands, out of regarding 27,000 Syrians living in the occupied Golan, and hundreds of families depend on agriculture as a source of livelihood.

Israel occupied the Syrian Golan in the 1967 war, and announced its annexation in December 1981, and former US President Donald Trump recognized the annexation of the Golan in 2019, while most of the international community considers the region occupied territory.
