Full size comparison: iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max vs Galaxy S23 Ultra and other rivals

2023-09-12 19:08:00

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were presented to the world this Tuesday (12), bringing an exclusive high-performance processor and several improvements to screens, cameras and features. Now, it’s time to analyze which aspects the new cell phones stand out in terms of design and hardware over their main competitors.

TudoCelular created a full-size comparison that details the visual and technical differences of the new flagships from Apple against its rivals signed by the main manufacturers in the Android universe, including Samsung and Xiaomi. Check it out below!

Screen and design

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max bring an important design improvement to compete with cell phones with curved screens that deliver the best frontal use, but despite the thinner edges, the models have a pill-shaped notch — popularly known as Dynamic Island — which takes up a lot of space on the display.

A similar proposal is seen in the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus, which has three holes in the top center of the display to house its facial recognition sensors. The Chinese, in turn, offers the possibility of turning off the pixels that are located between the holes to offer an interface similar to Dynamic Island.

All other cell phones rely on the traditional single hole at the top of the screen to house their front cameras. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Motorola Edge 40 Pro and OnePlus 11 are some of the cell phones that feature curved panels to ensure more immersive experiences.

The cell phones — except for the OnePlus 11 — have an IP68 certified design, attesting to their better resistance against water and dust.

Hardware

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are powered by Apple’s new A17 Pro chip. This is the only processor in the industry manufactured using a 3-nanometer process — technology that, according to the manufacturer, should guarantee a huge leap in performance and energy efficiency compared to the A16 Bionic, used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 Pro.

In the Android universe, the high-performance chip most used in cell phones is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, manufactured in 4 nanometers by TSMC. Considering that this platform is almost a year old, a fairer performance comparison should be made with the debut of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will take place in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the model that has the highest performance compared to its Android-equipped rivals, as it has a CPU overclocked variant.

The Mate 60 Pro Plus features the Kirin 9000S, a chip developed by HiSilicon, a subsidiary of Huawei. This platform is manufactured using SMIC’s 7-nanometer process, also offering support for 5G connectivity — something rare in the brand’s cell phones due to trade embargoes imposed by the United States.

While Apple maintains secrecy regarding the RAM memory of the iPhone 15 Pro, other manufacturers boast cell phones with up to 16 GB of RAM — such as the OnePlus 11 and Xiaomi 13 Ultra. For gamer cell phones, like the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, this feature is common. Parallel to this, the industry is already testing smartphones with 32 GB of RAM.

Cmeras

The iPhone 15 Pro brings a set of cameras little different from its predecessor, and although it brings new features for amateur and professional photographers, the big highlight is the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which has a new telephoto camera system with prisms that guarantee 5x optical zoom.

The leader in distance photography is the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which offers a periscopic camera with 10x optical zoom, ideal for capturing images of the Moon. Furthermore, the top of the line is equipped with a 200 MP primary camera that, with technology of pixel blending, it can record much more details in low-light environments.

Standing out for its 1-inch sensor, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra also has a quadruple camera system for greater photography versatility. This is one of the select cell phones that can record videos in 8K at 30 FPS. The iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and OnePlus 11 are still limited to 4K at 60 FPS.

Speaking of the front cameras, there is little change to the praised system on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. With 12 MP sensors, these units offer advanced face mapping features and other exclusive functions thanks to sensors hidden under the notch, as well as O flagship da Huawei.

The iPhone 15 Pro will be launched in Brazil with suggested prices starting at R$9,299, costing less than the iPhone 14 Pro, which hit stores with a suggested price of R$9,499. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, starting at R$10,999, is also “cheaper” than the 256 GB version of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which arrived in the country for R$11,499.

The only rival to Apple’s new cell phones that is currently available in Brazil is the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which can be found in the R$6,000 range for the 8 GB RAM version with 256 GB of internal storage. Those who cannot do without optimizations for games may be interested in the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, with a suggested price of R$11,999.
