Former leader Lee Nak-yeon, who left the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 12th that he would pursue the creation of a new party (tentative name). Former Representative Lee said in his press release that day, “It is a new party to solve the national challenges of the Republic of Korea.” On the same day, Democratic Party defectors Kim Jong-min, Cho Eung-cheon, Lee Won-wook, and former lawmakers Jeong Tae-geun and Park Won-seok announced at a press conference at the National Assembly that they would create a separate new party, the Future Grand Coalition (tentative name). They said, “We will present a new political force before the Lunar New Year at the latest.” New Future and Future Alliance will hold a promoter convention on the 16th and 14th, respectively, and begin full-scale founding procedures.

Initially, it was predicted that former CEO Lee and current and former lawmakers would form a single new party together. However, there was a difference of opinion among some of the Democratic Party defectors who said, ‘It is not desirable for the new party to be seen as Lee Nak-yeon’s party.’ Former Representative Lee reportedly met with Reps. Kim Jong-min and Cho Eung-cheon on the evening of the 11th and reached a consensus, saying, “Time is running out, so let’s make a leap forward first.” An official from the new party said, “The inclusion of ‘future’ in the names of the two new parties reflects former CEO Lee’s opinion,” and added, “They will naturally merge at the stage of the party creation preparation committee.”

On this day, former Representative Lee said to Lee Jun-seok, Chairman of the Platform and Policy Committee of the New Reform Party (tentative name), “Chairman Lee symbolizes youth politics and represents a former experienced politician,” and added, “(If the two come together), they could become a model for generational integration.” . Regarding this, Chairman Lee Jun-seok also said on the same day, “We will continue our efforts to find the greatest common divisor.”

The increase in size of new temples is also becoming visible. On this day, former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Yong-nam, who served as special adviser to Yoon Seok-yeol’s presidential campaign, joined the New Reform Party. The Democratic Party is also discussing the possibility of additional departures of incumbent lawmakers. It is said that the 35 lawmakers who did not sign the statement the previous day to dissuade former leader Lee from leaving the party may leave the party in the future depending on the direction of nomination.
