Walloon Minister of Territorial Planning Willy Borsus approved the permit relating to the construction of the new multimodal station in Ottignieshis office announced Thursday.

The permit is accompanied by 47 conditions which were validated by the SNCB, including the creation of a support committee requested by the Municipal College. Its objective will be to allow dialogue between the different actors linked to this project and to ensure proper monitoring of the site, finally recalls Willy Borsus.

The station area represents a major challenge, particularly because of the upcoming arrival of the RER, underlines the minister.

It will be a gateway station, which will therefore pass above the tracks. Covering the station will protect users from weather conditions during their waiting time and/or when changing connections. The two footbridges will also be covered. The work will also aim to better structure this space, currently of poor quality, crossed by the 14 railway tracks.

An increasing budget for Ottignies station

The project – which will be implemented in phases – also plans to increase the size of the future bus station compared to the current one in order to allow the public transport operator (TEC) to operate its network of efficient manner.

This new multimodal station should see the light of day by 2030. SNCB’s investment was estimated – last May – at €83.3 million.
