We arrived for this duel within the entry segment. On one side is the Galaxy A14 5G with its proposal to bring the fifth generation mobile network to the basic category. On the other, the realme C55 in the quest to be the best option for an affordable device in the Brazilian market.

By placing Samsung’s and realme’s smartphones side by side, we have the most interesting choice in which one? We tell you the answer here at TudoCelular, in another Comparative.

design and connectivity

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G

Despite being entry models, each one has its own way of looking like more expensive ones. The Galaxy bets on the cameras placed individually on the screen and on the texture with small lines on the lid. The realme, on the other hand, comes with a shiny block of chrome rims to house the lenses, in addition to its matte finish on the back.

These modern looks may hide the modest category, but these cell phones are constructed of simple plastic throughout the body. Also, don’t expect them to have any certification that protects against water and dust.

realme C55

The C55 delivers a more compact and lighter body than the rival, apart from its notch in a hole with tricks that imitate Apple’s Dynamic Island. Quite different from the A14 5G, with its still teardrop notch. At least we see a similarity in biometrics, as both use the fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.

The duo offers storage expansion through the triple drawer, which allows you to use two operator chips and a microSD card at the same time. There’s even fifth-generation Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 on both. But only realme offers NFC, for approximation payments.

We started the confrontation with a point for the Chinese in design.

We have an LCD screen on both sides, with Full HD+ resolution. Even with a more modest material, the devices provide a level of brightness above average for the category, in addition to good contrast and a satisfactory viewing angle.

Another important point that both are similar is the 90 Hz refresh rate. This means that their panel allows for greater smoothness in navigation and system animations. But there is no additional protection on the glass against scratches in them.

What will differentiate these models here is the size of the display. The realme one is 6.72 inches, larger and with more frontal use than the 6.6 inches present in the Galaxy.

Therefore, the C55 scores one more point.

As

Manufacturers skimped on the audio part and put only a mono speaker on their input devices. That means you won’t get a more immersive experience when watching movies and listening to music on these laptops.

The lack of a stereo system also impacts on sound power, which is only average in both the A14 and the C55. They still lack the balance between bass, mids and highs.

The way to compensate for these flaws is to plug a standard headphone into the physical connector present on them, to have a better quality. Too bad none of them contain the accessory in the package.

No big differences around here, we give a tie.

System

These handsets come out of the box with Android 13 as the native operating system. Samsung guarantees two software updates for its basics, while realme still leaves the number of updates that its entry-level cell phone will receive open.

The Korean still has the differential of supporting 5G, to bring the fast mobile network to the entry segment. The presence of a 90 Hz refresh rate on them also helps to improve fluidity, whether in the leaner One UI Core of the A14, or the Realme UI of the C55.

Moving on to features, the Galaxy stands out for its Edge Screen shortcuts, the ability to open apps in split screen or windowed mode, as well as running the camera app with a shortcut via the power button.

On the other hand, realme brings the so-called Mini Capsule. It simulates something similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, by integrating software animations into the stall, to provide additional functionality, even if still limited for now.

The Korean stands out for its longevity and 5G; and the Chinese scores for bringing special resource.

Performance

The Galaxy comes equipped with the Exynos 1330 chip, against MediaTek’s Helio G88 that powers the realme. In this duel of different platforms, which smartphone has the best performance? The C55 proved to be the fastest in our tests. It ended up with almost a minute less in total time than the A14, thanks to its multitasking capable of holding more apps open in the background.

The scenario changes in the benchmarks. The Korean has an advantage in all indicators and registers a score 56% higher than the Chinese competitor. In games, we already have more limitations, although some heavy games still run with acceptable quality in them.

The multitasking weighs more here and gives the point to the C55.

Battery

Cell phones powered by a 5,000 mAh battery have become increasingly standard on the market, and it’s no different with our current duelists. But this does not mean that they have the same autonomy. Our standardized tests indicated a small distance between them, with just over half an hour of superiority for the C55.

When we go to recharge, realme goes ahead. The 33 W adapter sent by the Chinese company takes about an hour to complete the process. On the other hand, the Korean 15 W accessory needs almost twice as long as the rival to reach 100%.

This is an easy point for the realme C55.

We find these devices simple sets of cameras at the rear. The Galaxy brings a main 50 MP, in addition to a blur and a macro of 2 MP each. On the other side is realme’s 64 MP primary sensor, accompanied by a 2 megapixel macro. After all, what do we have in practice?

Both take good pictures for the category. The difference is that the A14 has a wider dynamic range and a slightly more accurate contrast than the C55. Not to mention its superior portrait mode, thanks to the dedicated lens. In dark places, the Korean’s night mode is also able to compromise less on quality than the Chinese. Lastly is their macro, which suffers from low resolution and a lack of autofocus.

In the details, we have one more point for Samsung.

The camcorder of the two is limited to Full HD resolution only. The Galaxy presents a slightly higher quality both in recorded images and in sound capture. The A14 videos also suffer less from shakes, due to the electronic stabilization that comes with it. At least, the focus of both is agile.

With results above the competitor, Galaxy takes one more point.

The A14 comes with a 13 MP front camera, against an 8 MP one on the C55. Can we already give the victory to the Korean? Both get the contrast, colors and skin tone right, but the Galaxy records more details, has a superior portrait mode and takes better selfies at night. The footage from the front of them is nothing more than Full HD.

Thus, we give one more point to Samsung.

The two cell phones became available in Brazil officially. The Galaxy A14 5G was launched at a suggested price of BRL 1,800, cheaper than the BRL 2,300 initially charged for the realme C55. In the current market, the two already appear below R$ 1,000, with slightly lower values for the Korean.

As any economy makes a difference in the consumer’s pocket, Samsung closes the duel with the last point.

Everything is equal on the scoreboard in this final match. After all, how to choose between these two cell phones? The Galaxy A14 5G has a well-defined audience: anyone looking for a basic device with fifth-generation network support and good longevity of updates, or who wants better cameras in this segment.

The realme C55, on the other hand, seems to offer more differentials. It has a more modern design, a bigger screen, different features on your system, faster multitasking performance, and a battery that lasts longer and takes less time to plug in.

Despite the fact that Samsung’s device is cheaper in national retail, it is necessary to weigh whether it is really worth spending a little less and not having the benefits presented by the realme competitor.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G: 6 POINTS
