The two manufacturers left the design of these devices with references to more expensive models. Both the Galaxy and Redmi keep the cameras placed individually on the cover. The difference is that the Korean has a vertical alignment, while the Chinese opts for a triangle arrangement.
Both contain sides made of plastic. However, Xiaomi chose to insert a glass back, which gives a more premium feel for the segment. Not to mention that this model is IP53 certified for resistance against dust and splashes. At least, the two are similar in terms of the biometric reader integrated into the power button.

Both smartphones have an LCD screen and Full HD+ resolution. Their brightness is decent for the category, but only the Redmi 12 has above-average contrast. This still has a 6.8-inch display, larger and with better frontal use than the 6.6-inch display on the A14.

The A14 sold in Brazil is equipped with the Exynos 850 chip. On the other hand, the Redmi 12 is powered by the Helio G88 platform. They are not distinguished by memory and deliver 4 GB of RAM. Given the settings, which one is the fastest? Our tests indicated that the Chinese has the edge in this regard, with 40 seconds less in the total time of the two rounds.
The benchmarks confirm the Chinese company’s superiority, with a smooth victory in all indicators. In the case of AnTuTu, Redmi’s score was about 52% higher than Galaxy’s. As we are talking about two basic ones, their GPU will only be able to run more complex games at medium quality.
Xiaomi scores another point for the most efficient multitasking.

The manufacturers did not invent a battery and installed one with a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which has been the current market standard. But this does not mean having similar autonomy. The Galaxy was able to record almost 28 hours of duration in our standardized tests, a distance of practically five hours compared to the time achieved by the Redmi.
And even when it comes to charging, Samsung beats Xiaomi. The Korean company sends a 15 W adapter that can reach 100% in just under two hours. The Chinese company sends a more powerful 22.5 W accessory, but it still takes practically 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the process.
This is an easy point for the A14.

These cell phones have a triple photographic set, led by a 50 MP main camera. Completing the trio is a 2 MP macro in each of them and a 5 MP ultrawide in the A14, and 8 MP in the Redmi 12.
Both cell phones take good photos on sunny days, but the Redmi fails in the dynamic range and cannot reduce the blown-out background in HDR. Only the Chinese one has a night mode, which makes images clearer but also full of noise. Even without the feature, the Galaxy takes cleaner captures in dark places.
Their ultrawide suffers in low light, but the A14 still records better dynamic range and contrast than its rival. Finally, their macro suffers from low resolution and the lack of autofocus.
With higher quality overall, the A14 marks the point in this regard.

In the comparison between the basics, we had a good balance between Samsung and Xiaomi cell phones. The Galaxy A14 proved to be superior in its more powerful and balanced sound, in its battery life with greater autonomy and shorter recharge time, in addition to its better set of cameras for rear photos, videos and selfies.
