Galaxy S22 Ultra: The most stable phone of its kind?

Samsung’s new flagship has already been subjected to numerous endurance tests before even an average user has held it in his hands. The statements are now increasing that it is the most stable smartphone of its kind – but is that really true? We have all the info.

This is now standard: Das Galaxy S22 (with contract) is protected against water and dust in all variants with a protection certification according to IP68. This means that it should survive, for example, heavy downpours or brief immersion in shallow (fresh) water without any damage. But it gets much more exciting with the case, because this is where the Ultra differs from its sister models: The Galaxy S22 Ultra (with contract) is powered by a premium housing with a particularly strong aluminum frame and a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protected. Sounds great on paper, but does it that protective covers and display foils might be superfluous in the future?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: no longer need a protective cover?

One might think, because rumors have it that the S22 series will probably be the last series of Samsung phones (with contract) is the factory with are equipped with a protective film. And one hears more and more often that many users are increasingly doing without safety accessories such as additional protective covers. Understandable, because what’s the point of choosing a cool smartphone design if you then hide it in a thickly padded case? And a high-quality equipped Galaxy S22 Ultra can’t even withstand that run over by a car will?

Yes, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is probably the most robust smartphone of its kind. Manufacturer Samsung has protected it with high-quality materials and it can apparently withstand a few falls on hard concrete floors. But the video below shows that no matter how robust the Galaxy S22 Ultra may be, the degree of optical damage depends largely on the angle at which the smartphone falls on what type of floor. If you don’t use a case or foil, if your cell phone hits the edge first or if it hits a pointed object, you have to expect broken displays and deep scratches, even with a device as robust as the S22 Ultra. At least: The back seems to be particularly robust and has hardly suffered any damage.

Display, Touch und Fingerabdrucksensor: unkaputtbar?

However, endurance tests like this also show something else: They don’t want to convince you that your smartphone no longer needs additional protection. Instead, they impressively demonstrate that a flagship phone like the Galaxy S22 Ultra still works perfectly even after severe damage. Only after several falls onto a concrete floor did the smartphone’s display begin to flicker yellow. Despite everything, the touch controls still worked – and the fingerprint sensor also seems almost indestructible.

Up until this display failure, the S22 Ultra had survived multiple falls from considerable heights. The YouTuber in the video is nevertheless disappointed Gorilla Glass Victus+ – he didn’t expect scratches and breaks so quickly if the smartphone “only” fell from waist height. He also recommends that if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, you still need a protective cover despite everything.
