Galaxy Z Fold 5 teardown shows parts that make the fold more resistant; watch the video

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 maintains the good reputation of its predecessors when it comes to resistance, as shown in durability tests carried out by JerryRigEverything. Now, the presenter of the famous channel has released a video that shows the disassembly process and the advanced internal construction of Samsung’s new folding cell phone.

Zack Nelson uses the same cell phone damaged in his endurance tests to carry out the disassembly process. The expert’s goal was to identify which mechanisms in the foldable cell phone help maintain its renowned durability while maintaining a slim and elegant look. Check it out in the video below:

The expert starts the process by removing the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s internal flexible screen, which can be easily damaged if not handled correctly. As the purpose is to explore the smartphone’s chassis and the display had already suffered damage in the resistance test, Nelson preferred to remove the part without major precautions.

After removing the folding screen, it is possible to observe that the cell phone has a thin strip of fabric with several holes attached to its chassis. Nelson speculates that this component helps protect the device’s internal hardware from damage if the aluminum casing is dented after being dropped or crushed.

This material could be what Samsung calls a Shock-Dispersion Layer (“shock dispersion layer”, in free translation). The manufacturer briefly commented on this technology during the Galaxy Z Fold 5 launch event, explaining that this layer helps protect the smartphone in the event of a fall.

Another part that helps to prevent internal damage to the cell phone is “inherited” from the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It is a fiber-reinforced plastic layer that supports the flexible screen. Before this material, Samsung used a metallic panel, which was heavier.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available in Brazil with suggested prices starting at R$ 13,799. Its specs include a flexible 7.6-inch display with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, a “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” processor, and a triple camera array that includes a telephoto lens with a 10 MP sensor and 3x optical zoom.
