“Psychologically, employees are fed up. Their lives have been on hold for a year. » Véronique Guichenay, employee representative, employee at the Dax store, speaks for all her colleagues at the end of the commercial court hearing this Wednesday, February 14. The business protection plan proposed by businessman Michel Ohayon for the 26 Galeries Lafayette stores he owns was once again examined. But the court did not rule. A new hearing is set for February 21.

In the meantime, negotiations continue between the parties. The plan intended to exit the safeguard procedure presented by Michel Ohayon counts in particular on an abandonment of 70% of receivables and on an 11% growth in activity in 2024. Employee representatives have already spoken out against this plan, believing in a press release that the growth hypothesis “is not realistic” and that from a financial point of view, “the effort required of creditors is considerable”.

The Galeries Lafayette group refuses the plan

This Wednesday, the Galeries Lafayette group in turn opposed this safeguard plan by refusing the proposals from the management of Hermione Retail, Michel Ohayon’s company which owns 22 stores out of 26. The amount of the Galeries group’s debt Lafayette, main supplier and creditor, reached 48 million euros. According to Maître Stéphane Kadri, the lawyer for the employees of Hermione Retail, the parent company would be ready to accept a rescheduling of this debt, but does not accept the modifications to the contract which binds the two parties proposed by the businessman .

Heckled by employee representatives, Michel Maire, interim director of Hermione Retail, assured that negotiations remained open. “I understand that it is difficult for you, but for the moment it is positive,” he assured, recalling that there had been no layoffs. Nearly a thousand employees in the 26 stores are awaiting a decision.
