“Gary Sánchez Signs with Padres: Latest Updates on Catcher’s Third Team Move”

2023-05-29 23:03:27

Gary Sánchez will join his third organization in 2023. The Dominican catcher reached an agreement with the Padres on Monday, a source told MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell. The move has yet to be made official.

Sanchez was claimed on waivers following being designated for assignment by the Mets. He only played in three games with New York and had one hit with one RBI. He started the season with the Giants, but did not play in a major league game with San Francisco.

The two-time All-Star catcher also won a Silver Slugger, and spent his best years with the Yankees. San Diego’s receiving situation has been in flux, with Luis Campusano on the disabled list since early May with a thumb injury. Austin Nola has struggled at the plate (.434 OPS) and Brett Sullivan has been sharing time with him behind the plate.
