Gas price exceeds 40 euros due to capacity drop in Norway

The price of gas on the main Dutch exchange TTF exceeded 40 euros per megawatt hour on Monday. This increase is partly due to the fact that the reduced capacity in Norway has been prolonged.

Contracts for the month of October climbed 11% on Monday. Since the beginning of September, prices have increased by 25%.

On the other hand, prices for November and December are much less volatile. They also increased slightly on Monday, but have remained virtually stable over the past month. This is explained by the fact that mild weather is forecast and gas stocks are already well filled. The economic situation must also be taken into account.

At 40 euros per megawatt hour, prices are still well below the level of autumn 2022, when peaks of more than 300 euros per megawatt hour were reached. However, natural gas remains much more expensive today than before the energy crisis.
