Suzuka (Japan) (AFP) – French driver Pierre Gasly will move from the Alvatore team to Alpine, replacing Spaniard Fernando Alonso, twice world champion in Formula One, the French team announced Saturday on the sidelines of the Japanese Grand Prix.

On the other hand, Dutchman Nick de Vries, who started his participation last month, will replace Alex Albon (Williams) in the Italian Grand Prix, in place of Gasly in Alvatauri.

Gasly, who started his F1 career in 2017 with Toro Rosso, will drive inside the Red Bull pits, alongside fellow countryman Esteban Ocon in Alpine.

Gasly, 26, said he was “emotionally moved” to join the French team that is racing with McLaren for fourth place with the constructors.

“Albin’s development in the past three years has motivated me and the continuous improvement in their performance,” added Gasly, who has one win at the Italian Prix de Italy 2020.

Ocon, 26, gave Albin her first victory last year by winning the Hungarian Prize.

On the other hand, Alonso, 41, will leave his team to join Aston Martin on a long-term contract, in place of retired German and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
