Three prizes for Scott-Pien Picard and Laura Niquay, two for Kathia Rock and a tribute to Florent Vollant

Scott-Pien Picard, one of the stars of the 4th Indigenous Music Gala at Salle Jean-Marc-Dion.

The 4th Teweikan Indigenous Music Gala at the Salle de spectacle de Sept-Îles under the theme Tribute to the great Innu nation rewarded three great artists from Maliotenam: Scott-Pien Picard (best album, Indigenous language and Blues/rock style artist) , Kathia Rock (traditional and emerging music) and Florant Vollant with the Tribute and Recognition award.

The Attikamek artist from Wemotaci Laura Niquay stood out with three awards, including best performer and the jury’s favorite. Samian won in the category “Music of Modern Expression” and the group Petapan “Country Style”.

Artisans from the 14 Aboriginal radio stations that are members of the Atikamekw-Montagnais Communication Society formed the jury. A public vote conducted on the web counted for more than half of the final decision.

Among the highlights of the Gala, let’s underline the tribute paid to the teueikan players and the one paid to the women who have contributed to safeguarding the languages and transmitting the Aboriginal culture.

Symbolically co-chaired by Michèle Audette, senator from Maliotenam, and Claude Gosselin, president and chief executive officer, from Sept-Îles, the Gala benefited from the precious collaboration of the Aluminerie Alouette. It reproduced the well-known ADISQ formula. Several nominated artists offered performances on stage in front of a nearly full house last night.
