The president of the Association of Attica Fuel Dealers (SAPEK), Nikos Papageorgiou, “sees” the possible increase in the price of gasoline to 2 euros per liter until Easter, as he reported to ERT.
Mr. Nikos Papageorgiou stated that “since the beginning of the war in Ukraine we are living a period of uncertainty regarding energy products.”, and added that “the insecurity in the international field leaves room for prices to rise to unexpected levels as any small or big event sparks market uncertainty sends fuel prices skyrocketing.”
Even foreign analysts, he added, cannot justify why Brent oil has approached 90 dollars a barrel and then mentioned some reasons for this rise, such as that the refineries price based on the uncertainty that exists, in field of four days, to be able to cover any risks that may arise. So there, as he said, there is a margin of profit that has to do with the safety of the refineries when they refine the products and supply them to the markets.
A second reason, he continued, is that the costs of other products used in refining have increased too much.
“The price of lead-free is close to two euros per liter. For ten days now, an increase has been recorded in the Greek market, which has already reached nine to ten cents per liter until the end of the week, that is until Friday. On Saturday, we may see a minute or two even more” said the president and added: “An average price today that we are talking about is 1.93 euros per liter for the whole country, we may find it also 1.89 euros per liter in large urban cities, but also 2.12 euros per liter in the most remote islands”.
Mr. Papageorgiou suggests that consumers be careful when they see particularly low prices. As he noted, “today the Greek refineries give the barrel with 1.81 euros per liter of gasoline.
So we all understand that from 1.81 and above the wholesale company must win, the tank the transportation cost, and the gas station owner. Let everyone consider how much this profit can be, 9 minutes, 10 minutes, 12 minutes, 15 minutes. So he has to factor in that 1.81 and another 10, 12, 14 minutes, into the final price to be safe in my estimate.”
“If the current situation continues,” he added, “we may see, approaching Easter, the price of gasoline reaches 2 euros per liter.”
He also emphasized that “since the beginning of the war, we gas station owners do not have the right to sell as much as we want. There is a ceiling imposed on our profit. So we can’t say about speculative games with regard to gas station owners in the domestic market.”
