It was only a matter of time after last week’s rise in Montreal, but now gas has also crossed the $2 mark in Quebec City after a significant jump of nearly 10 cents per liter on Monday morning.
Some retailers posted gasoline at 205.9 in Quebec and Lévis, a historic level.
Both in Quebec and on the South Shore, motorists who come across fuel below the psychological $2 mark are better off taking advantage of it quickly since the increase seems to be setting in at high speed in the region.
Prices that will stay

“It is certain that currently, we are not in a bearish logic”, said CAA-Quebec spokesperson Jesse Caron.

For comparison, a year ago, in May 2021, the average price of gasoline in Quebec City was 133.8 according to Statistics Canada data.
Worse still, in May 2020, when the uncertainty of the pandemic had caused prices to fall, the liter was retailing at 93.5 in the Old Capital.
