The love story ended tragically.
In the personal life of Andrei Konchalovsky, a real drama broke out. When the director was married to Natalia Arinbasarova, he became interested in another woman. She became the star of French cinema Masha Meril.
The lovers managed to hide their connection for a long time. At the first opportunity, the couple met in other countries. But Konchalovsky and Meril could not be together: he lived in the USSR, she lived in Paris.
There came a time when the director felt that he was ready to turn the tide. He confessed his infidelity to his wife in order to reunite with his beloved. But then a letter came from Masha in which she stated: everything was over between her and Konchalovsky, and very soon another person would become her husband.
Later, the director, who did not translate well from French, found out that shortly before that, Meril had written to him that she was pregnant. But, having received no reaction from her lover, the actress had an abortion and accepted a marriage proposal from a fan.
Konchalovsky steadfastly accepted the blow of fate. The screenwriter swore to the beautiful Meril that, despite everything, he would love her all his life. And only one director knows whether he kept that promise.
