CBS News reported that the incident occurred at around 11:30 noon on the 8th local time in Gaza, and the victims were residents of the Al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza. It is said that two boys were among the five dead, and 11 others were injured in the accident. The exact ages of the dead and injured are not yet known, but the injured are said to be between 30 and 50 years old.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is getting worse. The United States, Jordan, Egypt, France, the Netherlands and Belgium launched an airdrop operation into Gaza on the 8th in an attempt to allow local residents to obtain urgently needed food and other supplies.

A U.S. defense official pointed out that a preliminary review showed that the U.S. airdrop operation caused no casualties on the ground, but said further investigation was needed.

US Central Command stated in a social media post in the evening that the casualties in the accident were not caused by US airdrops.

There is a video showing on social media,A large number of material packages tied with parachutes fell from the sky, but the tether seemed to be tangled and tangled. One of the parachutes did not fully open, and the package fell at a high speed.

Mohammed al-Ghoul, a witness at the refugee camp, told AFP that he and his brother followed the airdrop of supplies, hoping to get “a bag of flour.” “Then, all of a sudden, the parachute didn’t open and it hit the roof of one of the houses like a rocket.”

Commenting on the matter, the media office of the Gaza authorities under the Palestinian Islamist organization “Hamas” said that the airdrop was “a futile effort” and “not the best way to get aid into (Gaza).”

The United Nations has previously said airdrops or proposed maritime aid corridors cannot replace land deliveries and has urged Israel to allow more trucks to reach Gaza through more border crossings.
