Developed by Space, Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026. Confirmation of the late-year arrival came during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, following a gameplay-less reveal in the summer of 2024 that was followed by a period of silence from the studio.
Gears of War: E-Day Release Date and Platforms
Regarding platform availability, Gears of War: E-Day will not be releasing on PlayStation 5, despite earlier rumors and leaked materials pointing to a launch on Sony’s console alongside Xbox, and despite a prior remaster of the first game marking the series’ debut on Sony hardware. Instead, the full summer 2026 reveal confirmed that the title is an Xbox Series X/S console exclusive. The game will also launch on Windows via the Xbox app and Steam, and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will get access to it on day one.
Editions, Pre-Order Details, and Pricing
Three distinct editions are available for pre-order ahead of the launch:
- Standard Edition ($69.99 / £59.99 / €69.99): Includes the base game.

A separate upgrade for the Standard edition will also be sold.

All editions benefit from pre-order bonuses that include open beta early access starting on August 6, the Exfil weapon set, and the Exfil Dom legendary character skin.
Timeline Setting and Narrative Context
Serving as the first chapter in the Gears timeline, the prequel is set fourteen years before the 2007 original title. The narrative follows young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago through Emergence Day itself—the morning when the Locust emerged from the surface of Sera and killed a quarter of the human population within a single day. Story context notes that the war against the Locust kicks off only a few weeks after a 79-year conflict between human factions known as the Pendulum Wars, explaining why the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) was not in optimal condition when the subterranean monsters attacked.

Horde Siege Multiplayer Mode
Previews of the game’s multiplayer mode, newly titled egw.news, highlight structural and scale changes. Lobbies support twelve players split into three squads of four across three match types:

- Blitz: Gives a squad a handful of objectives before extraction.
- Siege: Features a larger number of objectives before extraction.
- Horde: The traditional stand-your-ground format.
Xbox describes the mode as three squads defending Kalona across expansive city maps. Three maps will ship at launch, including the baroque European-style metropolis Golden Quarter, with more maps promised in seasonal updates.
