The plenary session of Congress questions this followingnoon the Minister of Transport, Geiner Alvaradowho will have to answer regarding the alleged irregular acts when he was in charge of the Housing sector and that motivated the Nation’s prosecutor’s office to investigate him for being alleged operator of a criminal organizationheaded by the president.

The two motions -one with 14 questions and the other with 9 questions- were approved with the support of Free Peru and legislators from other leftist benches related to the president. After the interpellation, the legislators can present a motion of censure, which, if successful, will force Minister Alvarado to present his resignation from office. Some days ago, El Comercio spoke with the official factions that did not rule out going down that path.

On August 11, the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, ordered the initiation of a preliminary investigation of President Pedro Castillo and Geiner Alvarado, in his capacity as Minister of Housing, for the alleged crime of criminal organization. The investigations reach the awarded works in the provinces of Chota-Cajamarca and Cajatambo-Lima.
