The global research initiative, which surveyed 7,200 people, reveals that artificial intelligence has become an entrenched, permanent fixture for the younger demographic. For roughly 47 percent of these respondents, AI is used almost constantly throughout the day. Rather than treating large language models or automated utilities as occasional novelties, this cohort relies on them heavily for data gathering, study assistance, brainstorming, and professional workloads.
Shifting Boundaries: AI as a Social Companion and Confidant
Beyond practical productivity tools, a substantial segment of Gen Z views artificial intelligence through a social lens. Approximately 27 percent of survey participants interact with these systems as if they were personal companions. This behavioral shift moves AI away from a standard utility and positions it as a source of emotional support and artificial friendship.
The blurring of lines between software and companionship manifests in sensitive data handling. The study notes that 28 percent of respondents openly discuss private matters with AI systems that they would typically withhold from human peers.
Vladislav Tushkanov, manager at the AI Technology Research Center of Kaspersky, noted that this age group demonstrates a high proficiency in embracing emerging AI trends. Tushkanov explained that treating artificial intelligence like a friend underscores a rapid evolution in the psychological bond between humans and modern technology.
The Security Deficit: Over-Reliance Versus Data Protection
High acceptance rates and emotional attachment, however, do not correspond with rigorous security awareness. The Kaspersky data highlights a concerning lack of operational caution among younger users. Only 42 percent of Gen Z users consistently verify generated facts or take active steps to protect personal data.
More than half of the demographic executes these safety protocols only sporadically, while a small minority ignores them altogether.
