Gender Ban in Bavaria: Prime Minister Söder Takes a Stand Against Compulsory Gender in Schools and Administration

Gendering will be banned in Bavaria’s schools and authorities in the future. “For Bavaria I can say: With us there will be no compulsory gender. On the contrary: We will even prohibit gender in schools and administration,” said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) today in his first government statement in the new legislative period in the state parliament.

At the same time, Söder accused the “traffic light government” in the federal government of going overboard with projects such as cannabis legalization, gender and the right to self-determination. “Don’t we have any other problems in Germany?” he asked.

Internal I, underscore, gender asterisk and the like are controversially discussed in Germany. In some German federal states, bans such as those envisaged by Söder in Bavaria already apply or there are efforts to do so.

In Austria, Lower Austria is currently alone with the gender ban for authorities.
