A medical and research team from the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, King Saud University, succeeded in discovering a genetic mutation that causes fulminant hepatitis due to hepatitis A virus.
The university confirmed that this work was done in cooperation with laboratory immunologists from Rockefeller University in New York and Paris Descartes University in France. The research was completed according to the highest scientific standards.
She added that the team showed the benefits of rapid genetic diagnosis of genetic disorders, and the need for people with this mutation to obtain viral hepatitis vaccines to help them avoid the dangerous effects of the disease.
Participated from the College of Medicine at King Saud University Associate Professor Dr. Fahd Al-Suhaim, Dr. Zubaida Al-Sam, Dr. Rabih Halawani, and Dr. Salih Al-Mohsen, and the discovery was published in the scientific journal “Journal of Clinical Immunology”.
