Beirut – by Omar Al-Bardan

With the increase in the pace of military escalation on the southern border, coinciding with the increase in the level of mutual threats between Israel and Hezbollah, the situation on the ground is still the scene of rounds of violence that are getting worse, while all data indicate that it will not remain at this pace, and its intensity will increase in the coming days, and that After the occupation army approved expanded war plans against the party, which in turn is preparing for a comprehensive confrontation if imposed.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had instructed the army to prepare for all scenarios to deal with Hezbollah, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that the forces on the northern front are prepared and prepared for any threat, while a member of the Israeli Knesset warned that whenever Hezbollah intensifies its attacks, War is approaching. “We must strike the first blow,” he said.
In the field situation, Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling targeted Lebanese towns and villages yesterday, most notably Ras al-Naqoura and the outskirts of the town of Tayr Harfa and Jabal Balat near Marwahin in the western sector, after it had intensified its targeting of the vicinity of Naqoura, Jabal al-Labouneh, Alma al-Shaab, Ramiya, al-Jebeen, al-Dhahira, Yater, and Wadi Mariamin. In the western and central sectors.
The occupation army fired flares over the border villages adjacent to the Blue Line, while the reconnaissance aircraft did not miss the skies of the region, up to the sea coast and the course of the Litani River, up from the Qasimiya Bridge and up to Qaqiyat Al-Jisr. Israeli artillery also bombed the town of Al-Khiam, and it was reported that Al-Hamams Hill was targeted from the Al-Khiam side with five artillery shells.
On the other hand, Hezbollah leader Muhammad Fneish confirmed that all options are open to confront the Israeli enemy, pointing out that the escalation of operations, increasing losses, helplessness and frustration felt by the leaders of the occupation army is evidence of the extent of the impact of the resistance’s presence and operations in Lebanon and their impact on supporting the people of Palestine and alleviating them. Stressing that the resistance is ready and has taken into account all possibilities, and the West, which supports the enemy, must realize that this confrontation will not stop at a certain limit.
In international positions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that Tehran and Beirut do not want to get involved in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and will not participate in it if there are no provocations. During a television interview, he added, “I do not think that Iran or Lebanon wants to get involved in this crisis, and I do not see any desire on the part of either country to wage a large-scale war in the region.
Meanwhile, the head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, confirmed, during his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Ambassador Joanna Wronczka, that what is happening in southern Lebanon does not serve anyone, especially Lebanon and its people, calling for the necessity of ensuring stability on the borders by re-establishing the effects of Resolution 1701 and its proper implementation, provided that the Lebanese army undertakes this mission with the support of international peacekeeping forces. Geagea pointed out the importance of the army’s role in ensuring stability. Hence, it is imperative for all parties not to neglect the cohesion of the military institution or to involve it in adventures and experiments with uncertain results, as well as to spare it from any process of change in the midst of this delicate stage.
At a time when the issue of extending the term of the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, is weighing heavily on the internal scene, in order to avoid any vacuum at the head of the army leadership, and after the cabinet session was postponed until next Monday, it has been learned that it is expected that the issue of extending the term of General Aoun will be raised in the session, from outside its agenda. Aoun, on behalf of a number of ministers, at a time when Caretaker Communications Minister Johnny Corm confirmed that President Najib Mikati informed the ministers that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers is preparing an extensive legal and constitutional study regarding the legal solutions that would enable avoiding a vacancy in the army leadership.
Ministerial sources revealed that “the Council of Ministers will decide the position on the extension for General Aoun, because there is an urgent necessity to take this step, for fear of a vacancy in the leadership position at the head of the military institution, in light of these stressful circumstances that the country is going through, which is suffering from a presidential vacancy, which has entered its second year, “Nothing suggests yet that there is a possibility of holding presidential elections soon.”
In this context, MP Wael Abu Faour, a member of the “Democratic Gathering,” said after his meeting with the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, that to guarantee the military establishment, the army commander must be extended and a military council must be appointed. He said, “A vacancy is not desirable for any institution.”
