“Mom is gone”, the Burlesque star, 76, wrote via Twitter on Sunday, December 11, confirming his mother’s passing, alongside a sad face emoji.
The late actress – born Jackie Jean Crouch – had previously battled pneumonia earlier this year. “Sorry, I was Mia. Mom has been sick from time to time. She just got out of [the hospital]», Cher tweeted in September. “She had pneumonia. She is going better.
Holt is survived by his two daughters, Cher and Georgian LaPiere, and her two grandchildren. The former model welcomed Cher (née Cherilyn Sarkisian) in 1946 with her ex-husband John Paul Sarkisian and Georganne in 1951 with her ex Jean Southall.
The Mama Mia! Here we go again star – who shared his son Chaz Bono with her late ex-husband Sonny Bono and son Elijah Blue with the late ex Gregg Allman – was close to the matriarch throughout her long career.

The “Believe” singer was married to Sonny Bono, who died in 1998, between 1964 and 1975. After they separated, she moved on with Allman but the couple separated shortly after their whirlwind nuptials in 1975. (Allman died in May 2017.) Cher was recently linked to Alexandre “AE” Edouard after meeting at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year.
“Cher knows very well that there is a lot of skepticism about this romance but she doesn’t care,” a source says exclusively. We Weekly last month from the Oscar-winning actor and music director, 36. “She revels in the attention and says there’s something very special about her and AE that makes her feel more alive and sexier than ever.”
The insider added: “She’s always been into younger guys, and this is by no means the first fun, no strings attached fling she’s had in recent years. The difference here is that this one feels special, which is why she felt confident about going public as a couple.
While Cher kept her love life a secret for a long time before she started her relationship with Edwards, she’s been more candid about her relationship with her mother and their family.
“I was always this weird kid who wanted more adventures than was allowed. I think I learned a lot from my mother,” Cher recalled to AARP magazine in an interview in August 2014. “She really didn’t take anything from anyone. …She kept [telling me]”You have so much potential and you are so special.”
