ATLANTA — Freshman Parker Mariencheck of the Georgia men’s tennis team finished the weekend undefeated in singles play at the Georgia Tech Invitational, helping the team notch four total wins during the event’s final day on Sunday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
“Parker Mariencheck continues to work hard every day and he has improved in many areas,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “This weekend, he excelled and made great progress.”
The Bulldogs opened in doubles action but were unable to pick up a win on day three. In singles, Ryan Colby picked up his seventh win of the fall, beating Krish Arora (Georgia Tech) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Mariencheck also notched a three-set victory against Max Weir (Georgia St.) by a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 score. He has now won five of his last six matches and stands with a 9-3 record.
Two other freshmen picked up wins on Sunday afternoon. Cyrus Mahjoob notched a straight-set win against Baran Soyler (Georgia St.), 6-3, 6-4, going 2-1 over the weekend to improve to 11-5 on the year. Niels Ratiu picked up his fifth win of his collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Gabriel Datei (Georgia St.).
Georgia finished with a 9-11 record in its 20 singles matches and 3-8 across 11 doubles matches in its final event of the fall. The team’s final tournament before the dual match season will be the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Jan. 5-7, 2024.
