The German club Mainz announced, on Tuesday, the termination of the contract of the Dutch player of Moroccan origin, Anwar El Ghazi, after his solidarity with Palestine against the brutal aggression by the Zionist entity. The termination of Mainz’s contract for player Anwar Al-Ghazi came one month after he joined the team on a free transfer.
The German club’s statement said: “Anwar Al-Ghazi has taken a position on the conflict in the Middle East, in a way that is unsustainable for the club, and the decision was taken after a discussion between the board of directors and the players.”
He added: “Mainz respects different points of view on the complex conflict in the Middle East, which has been going on for decades. However, the club distances itself from the content of the post, because it does not match the values of our club.” Al-Ghazi, 28, played for several European clubs during his career, with Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Everton and Aston Villa.
