German exports fall 7.6% in July

In July, German exports to countries outside the European Union (EU) fell 7.6% month on month, reaching 56.8 billion euros, the country’s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said on Monday. .

Due to a sharp rise in prices in the foreign trade market, however, nominal exports from Europe’s largest economy rose 5.5% year-on-year, according to Destatis.

The United States remained Germany’s main export market, with exports to the country rising 14.9% year-on-year to €12.5 billion. Exports to China increased by 6.1% to 8.9 billion euros.

Last week, the German Association of Electrical and Electronic Equipment Manufacturers (ZVEI) reported that electrical equipment manufacturers had increased their exports to China by 4.1% year-on-year, reaching 12.8 billion euros. in the first half of 2022.

“China’s electronics market is by far the largest in the world,” ZVEI said in a special report on foreign trade. The industry’s exports to China have grown much more dynamically than those to the rest of the world, she added.
