As “Spiegel” reports, two suspected Russian spies who are said to have planned attacks on military transport routes in order to delay aid to Ukraine were arrested in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth.

According to information from the magazine “Spiegel”, sabotage plans by Russian agents have been exposed in Germany. Federal Prosecutor General Jens Rommel is said to have ordered the arrest of two suspected spies in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth.

The two German-Russian nationals are strongly suspected of having worked for a foreign secret service in a particularly serious case, the Federal Prosecutor General confirmed at the Federal Court of Justice on Thursday.

US Army base in Grafenwörth spied on

According to the media report, the main suspect is a 39-year-old German-Russian. One of the objects spied on is said to be a facility of the US-Armee in Grafenwöhr, Bavaria. There is, among other things, an important military training area where the US Army trains Ukrainian soldiers, for example on Abrams main battle tanks.

The main suspect is said to have been in contact with Russian secret service contacts since 2023 and to have written in messages about carrying out arson and explosive attacks on military infrastructure, defense factories and industrial sites. The focus is said to have been on military sabotage in order to delay possible deliveries of military goods to Ukraine. (Ag./Red.)
