Europe is suffering from a severe drought in recent years.

However, as the water level of the river goes down, dozens of German warships that sank during World War II are revealed, and it is said that ancient relics dating back to 5,000 B.C. that were sleeping under the reservoir have been discovered.

Reporter Seo Hye-yeon reports.

A shipwreck has risen to the surface of a river that has been exposed throughout the drought.

There are also ships with bare steel frames on the sandy beach.

German warships that sank during World War II in 1944 while retreating from the advance of Soviet troops.

About 20 German warships that were submerged in water were exposed as water levels in the Danube River fell to the lowest level in 100 years due to a severe drought this summer.

The sunken warship is loaded with ammunition and explosives, threatening the residents.

“There are 10,000 kilograms of explosives left in this area. They may or may not explode, but if they do, it will be a catastrophe.”

In Spain, a drought has unleashed ancient artifacts.

As the water level in the reservoir went down, you could see all of the dozens of megaliths called ‘Stonehenge of Spain’.

This relic, believed to have been made by ancient humans around 5000 BC, was first discovered in 1926, but has been submerged in water and has only been seen four times since.

Although the natural disaster created the opportunity, the researchers were excited.

“As a researcher, I am very excited because it is a very rare opportunity to re-research a field that has not been studied properly.”

While the unprecedented drought is leading to unexpected discoveries, the United Nations warns that by 2050, 75% of the world’s population will be affected by drought without efforts to tackle climate change.
