Germans celebrate another double victory in Zell am See

Lisa Perterer finished sixth and was Austria’s only top ten finisher.

The Ironman 70.3 in Zell am See and Kaprun remains firmly in German hands. Mika Noodt and Caroline Pohle crossed the finish line fastest on Sunday following last year’s victory by Frederic Funk and Daniela Bleymehl. The last time no German team won the tournament was in 2016. Lisa Perterer from Carinthia had the best performance, crossing the finish line in sixth place among women.

In addition to nearly 80 professional athletes, nearly 2,500 amateur athletes are competing in triathlons this year. Competitors must swim 1.9 kilometers in Lake Zell and cycle through Zell am See, Kaprun, Bruck, Pisendorf, Tasenbach, Lund-Embach, Dünten, Maria Alm, Saarland 90 kilometers to Velden and Maishofen, as well as a 21.1-kilometre lakeside promenade running along Zell.

In a strong professional field, Mika Noodt pulled away on the bike and could no longer catch up in the half marathon. Belgium’s Jelle Jeans crossed the finish line in second place, more than five minutes behind. Gregor Payet of Luxembourg won the bronze medal. In the women’s race, Caroline Pohle confirmed her excellent form a week after winning in Tallinn. Second in swimming, she took the lead after the first transition zone and didn’t give up on the bike and run. She confidently defeated Grace Thek from Australia and Laura Madsen from Denmark.
