Germany is preparing to host the European Nations Championship (Euro 2024) next summer, as Germany is in Group A, which includes Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland.
German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann said in an interview with ZDF: “The door is open for the return of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos. We must think regarding all the players who hold a German passport… This is my job.”
He added: “(Kroos’s return from international retirement) is an interesting idea. I have already spoken to him on the phone and I will call him once more in March, and if he continues to show his best performance, he will be cordially invited.”

Nagelsmann did not rule out switching midfielder Kimmich to right-back in the Euros, noting that he “held this position in many matches previously.”
He added: “I don’t think it would be wise to sit here and say that (Kimmich’s participation as a full-back) without informing him of that.”
When asked regarding the possibility of Manuel Neuer returning to the German goalkeeper, in light of Ter Stegen’s injury, he concluded: “If the situation continues as it is until next March, we will depend on Neuer in the Euro.”
