That’s what it’s about

  • In Germany, a 14-year-old girl died after an attack.

  • The attack took place early in the morning in Illerkirchberg near Ulm, less than 100 kilometers from the Swiss border.

  • The background to the fact is currently still completely unclear.

After the attack on two school children in southern Germany, one of the girls died. The 14-year-old succumbed to her injuries on Monday, a police spokesman confirmed. The other girl, aged 13, was seriously injured. Both had come to a hospital after the attack in Illerkirchberg near Ulm (Baden-Württemberg).

The suspect attacked the girls around 7:30 a.m. on the street in a residential area, the spokesman said. He left it open how and where they were injured. It was initially unclear whether a weapon was involved. As the “Southgerman newspaper” writes, a passer-by alerted the emergency services.

Three people arrested

The local police announced on Monday evening that the attacker had come from a neighboring accommodation for asylum seekers and had fled there again after the crime. This was then searched and three people were arrested. One of them was injured and needed medical treatment, the police continue. The 27-year-old Eritrean is now accused of assaulting the girls. The police also found a knife that could be used as a murder weapon.

Die “Southgerman newspaper” reports that rumors had been circulating for a while that there had been a shooting spree at a neighboring elementary school around the time. The police spokesman denied this. “The two girls were on their way to the bus to go to a secondary school,” he adds.

“She was completely upset”

An eyewitness reported that «SWR»that he heard noises near a traffic light in the town south of Ulm that morning. He looked and “there was the girl lying on the ground, bleeding, with a huge stab wound in her stomach. A second had injuries below the chest, a stab wound. She was completely devastated.” One of the girls is said to have told the eyewitness that the man came out of a house and hit her classmate for no reason. Then the man is said to have stabbed her in the stomach. The public prosecutor’s office and the police are now investigating why the two girls were attacked and whether the suspect and the two girls already knew each other.

“Snatched from life”

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) was shocked in the online service Twitter. “I mourn the girl who was killed and sincerely hope that the injured girl will get well,” said the SPD politician. Her thoughts are with the families of the girls. “The police are investigating all the backgrounds at high pressure,” continued Faeser.

The Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) made a similar statement. The 14-year-old was “suddenly torn from life”. “Our thoughts are with the parents, the family and the survivors of the dead in these difficult hours,” said Strobl. Strobl wished the injured 13-year-old “a quick, complete physical and mental recovery”. The background and motives are still unclear. The interior minister announced that he would fully investigate the crime.
