A center opened in Accra in 2017 already exists. He has so far been responsible for supporting Ghanaians who have arrived in Germany illegally and who have agreed to return voluntarily to their country with support from Berlin. In future, this same center should also make it possible to select qualified people who wish to go to Germany. Berlin is going to invest ten million euros in this project in Accra; support from the European Union is also planned.
More broadly, Berlin wants to create comparable centers in nine countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Indonesia. This solution should contribute to reducing the significant lack of skilled labor that Germany is facing. German Development Minister Svenja Schulze talks about solutions that benefit everyone.
The World Health Organization has, however, issued a caveat regarding the healthcare personnel that Germany lacks. The WHO stresses that Ghana itself badly needs this workforce.
