In the last few hours, the Consulate General of Spain in Cuba has published information regarding obtaining appointments at that consular headquarters.

According to the information, appointments are being assigned right now for a specific group of applicants.

In a note published on their social networks, specifically on their Twitter account, they refer to those candidates for Spanish citizenship who require an appointment for the obtaining your passports corresponding certificates issued by the Kingdom of Spain.

The statement from the Consulate General of Spain in Cuba states that those registered in that Consular Registry on dates prior to August 1 of this year can now obtain an appointment:

“Registrants in the Consular Civil Registry until 07-31-2023 can now access our agendas to obtain their FIRST PASSPORT application appointment,” can be read in the Twitter post.

Long wait for appointments and credentials

For months now, applicants for Spanish citizenship through the Democratic Memory Law have faced a real crossroads to access an appointment at the Spanish Consulate in Cuba.

After facing the innumerable difficulties involved in accessing the certificates issued by the Cuban civil registries, and then undergoing the long wait to legalize them at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), they do not have the expected facilities to access a consular appointment.

There are many Cuban applicants who, although they have already sent the required documentation, cannot even obtain the well-known credentials. And even others who, having already had their Spanish citizenship recognized, do not have appointments to obtain their passports.

According to some versions, the Spanish Consulate in Cuba is currently undertaking an update to its appointment granting system in order to speed up waiting times, and eliminate possible “loops” through which intermediaries or appointment managers were supposedly taking advantage.

The demand of thousands of Cuban applicants is that, at least, the credentials step be eliminated. That is, once the PDF documents are sent, a specific day and time can be obtained for in-person appointments.
