Getting vaccinated against influenza and covid-19 at the same time is safe, doctors confirm

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- The population can be vaccinated against covid-19 and the influenza at the same time without taking any risk.

This was expressed by specialists consulted by THE HERALD, who stated that the application of vaccines for both viruses is safe.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the simultaneous application of both vaccines,” he said. Lourdes mendoza, head of the Expanded Immunization Program (DAD).

The virologist from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), Wendy Murillo, explained that it does not represent a risk for the people who apply them because the immunity they stimulate is specific for each virus.

“It is safe and the immune response does not interfere with one another and must be one in each arm,” said Murillo.

For its part, Homer Mejia, coordinator of the surveillance of communicable and non-communicable diseases of Health, said that there are no contraindications to applying the vaccines at the same time.

In turn, he said that whoever does not want to apply them at the same time can wait 14 days between receiving one and the other.

At most immunization points in the Health Secretary and Social Security are applying vaccines for both viruses.
