Giant wine auction from Dorotheum and Falstaff starts

Vienna (OTS/LCG) – The event will take place again from November 3rd to 24th, 2023 Pre-Christmas online wine auction from Dorotheum and Falstaff instead, which will break all records again. With more than 2,000 wine bottles in 833 lots, this is the largest wine auction ever in Austria. In terms of quality, it meets top international standards, as only the best wines from France, Spain, Italy, Austria and the New World were included in the auction. For the first time there is also an enormously large selection of whiskeys (more than 80 lots!), including the rarest whiskeys such as a Macallan Signatory Vintage from 1949, which has an estimated price of 10,000 euros.

Starting price is 50 percent of the estimated price

This time too, the Dorotheum Falstaff wine auction will start with starting prices at 50 percent of the estimated price. This ensures a lot of “bargains”. Among the 833 lots there are 35 lots from Château Mouton Rothschild alone and 22 lots from Château Lafite Rothschild. This includes the highlight of the auction: a double magnum Lafite Rotschild 1961 with an estimated price of 18,000 euros. Further highlights include: A Bordeaux collection from the sensational 1982 vintage, a Cheval Blanc 1947 and a magnum bottle from Chateau Petrus 1961. The oldest vintage is a Brown Madeira from 1835.

Italy is also very well represented. The highlights are two magnum bottles from the cult winery Sassicaia from the legendary 1985 vintage, which wine pope Robert Parker awarded 100 points. The estimated value of a bottle is 6,000 euros.

Something for everyone

Many call prices are in the range below 100 euros. Austria is also well represented in terms of numbers. Here in particular the Wachau with the best Rieslings in the world and the top reds from Burgenland. There is also a very strong contingent of Rieslings from Germany.

The organizers Dorotheum and Falstaff also expect a new auction record in terms of proceeds in their short history of wine auctions.
