After the defeat in the semi-final of the King’s Cup, Atletico quickly regained balance. Diego Simeone’s team in La Liga will try to maintain at least 4th place, which gives them the right to play in the Champions League.
On Sunday, Atletico hosted Real Betis and led 2-0 at the break. It could have been even higher, but Alvaro Morata missed a penalty kick. In the 2nd half, the Seville team reduced the losses and could not afford more.
Second-placed Girona recently returned to winning ways and was the favorite in the away match against Mallorca. This week, the hosts sensationally advanced to the King’s Cup final in a penalty shootout, eliminating Real Sociedad.
In the home match of the season, Mallorca, fighting for relegation, was leading from the 33rd minute. The guests were unable to respond and suffered another league defeat. In La Liga, Girona may drop to 3rd place if Barcelona takes the three points.
