Glasner coup in Liverpool – Crystal Palace won 1-0

Oliver Glasner gave Jürgen Klopp a real setback on his farewell tour in Liverpool. The Glasner team Crystal Palace won the title contender 1-0 (1-0) in the Premier League on Sunday in the first duel between the two football coaches. Liverpool are two points behind champions Manchester City after their third competitive game in a row without a win. Arsenal could then go three points away with a win against Aston Villa (5.30 p.m. CEST).

Liverpool recently lost the league lead to Arsenal with a 2-2 draw at Manchester United. After the 3-0 defeat in the quarter-final first leg of the Europa League against Atalanta Bergamo, they suffered another bitter home defeat. The golden goal for Crystal Palace was scored by Eberechi Eze (14th), who was completely free after a pass from Michael Olise. A little later, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson prevented the score from making it 2-0 by clearing a shot from the rushing Jean-Philippe Mateta off the line (18′).

Chance after chance for the Reds

Liverpool recorded a shot on the crossbar through Wataru Endo (27th). Curtis Jones missed the Reds’ best chance in a counterattack after the break (75′). On the other hand, Alisson, who returned to the Liverpool goal after a long injury break, saved Mateta with a brilliant effort from point-blank range (74′).

Crystal Palace celebrated their first win against Liverpool since 2017 or 13 failed attempts. For Glasner it was his second complete success as a coach in England after a 3-0 win on his debut against Burnley at the end of February. Since then there have been two draws and three defeats under the Upper Austrian. With the coup in Liverpool, the Londoners increased their lead over the relegation zone to eight points with five rounds to go. They also played one less game
