Goal and victory with AC Milan

MILAN (AP) — American star Christian Pulisic made his AC Milan debut on the right foot, scoring one goal and assisting in another to beat Bologna 2-0 in their Serie A debut on Monday.

Pulisic, who joined the Rossonero last month, was involved in the play that led to Olivier Giroud’s goal to open the account after 11 minutes and his former English Chelsea teammate returned courtesies in the 21st.

Pulisic is one of several new faces at Milan, the team that was most active on the transfer market as it added six players.

Yunus Musah, his teammate on the United States team, served a suspension.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders, other recent signings, made their debut as starters and the latter assisted the first goal.

Pulisic hung a cross to the far post, where Reijnders pulled back for Giroud to drive the ball deep.

Ten minutes later, Pulisic and Giroud hit a wall for the second goal.

With a comfortable lead and muggy heat, even at night in Bologna, Milan toned down.

INJURIES RETURN

Back in Serie A, Claudio Ranieri pulled off a nice 0-0 draw for Cagliari on Torino’s home ground.

Ranieri, 71, returned to the club where he essentially began his coaching career more than three decades ago. He did something unlikely last season by taking them to the first division, winning a playoff.
