“Sustainable salary increases are not only a matter of fairness and appreciation for our colleagues, but are also crucial to ensuring the country’s competitiveness in attracting qualified experts and young talent,” said GÖD Chairman Eckehard Quin. “Performance of public employees.”

Full text of the letter, verbatim:

Dear Mr. Vice-Chancellor,

The past few years have been challenging: the coronavirus pandemic, Russia’s aggressive war in Ukraine, soaring energy prices and high inflation. All professional groups in the public sector make significant contributions to limiting negative impacts.

The foreseeable wave of retirements in the public sector will lead to staff shortages in various areas, resulting in significant increases in the workload of individual colleagues. Only through the strong investment of all colleagues can the entire public service work maintain high-quality performance.

Intense work pressure, coupled with unstable personnel situations, has a negative impact on the attractiveness of public services, making it increasingly difficult to remain competitive on the labor market.

The energy industry and the sharp rise in the prices of everyday items are now putting considerable pressure on all colleagues. You’ve made the advance and now look forward to payroll settlement to make up for the income gap. Public servants unions call for sustained increases in salaries, monthly allowances and allowances, which will ensure long-term security and enhance the purchasing power of all public employees.

In addition to inflation and economic growth, the significantly increased burden of responding to multiple crises and precarious human conditions should form the basis of negotiations.

We ask you to invite representatives of cantons, city associations and youn unions to participate in the negotiations.

The civil service union is demanding that salary negotiations begin in time so that an agreement can take effect on January 1, 2025, after the current salary agreement expires.

Sincerely

Mag. Dr. Eckhard Quinn
President
