The People’s Party will continue to advocate for asylum procedures in third countries

Vienna (OTS) – “The European agreement on a reform of asylum policy is a step in the right direction. While some European states have indulged in a naïve welcome culture for many years or have completely ignored the problem, the People’s Party has consistently called for sustainable solutions to this important issue, even if they are not always easy to find. We see the fact that the clear majority of European countries now agree to a tightening of the asylum law as a milestone towards the goal of finally curbing illegal migration to Europe and at the same time making the asylum system fairer. In the asylum issue, Europe has finally taken the helm again and is no longer adrift in the current like a ship without a captain,” commented Ernst Gödl, spokesman for the People’s Party for Integration and Migration, on the agreement between the EU states on a reform of the right of asylum.

“Nevertheless, it is clear that the reform of European asylum law must not end here. Interior Minister Karner and Federal Chancellor Nehammer will continue to emphatically advocate asylum procedures in third countries in order to further reduce the asylum pressure on the borders of Austria and Europe. We have already achieved a great deal in bilateral cooperation with other countries in Europe and beyond, and we are confident that the federal government’s consistent policy will continue to lead to a constant reduction in the number of asylum seekers. It is not surprising that the FPÖ is once again talking badly about all the progress made on the asylum issue. After all, the FPÖ, with its party chairman Kickl, fears nothing more than the end of illegal migration to Europe, since such a move would probably make half of the party’s political program completely obsolete,” concluded Gödl.
